Ravoyi Chandamama
Producer Aswani Dutt's Ravoyi Chandamama on Vyjayanthi Movies banner is a love story directed by Jayanth and has Nagarjuna and Anjala Zaveri in the lead roles. His success recipe of including the word 'raa' in the titles of his movies does not seem to have worked its magic this time.
Sasi (Nagarjuna) is a great singer. He loves his cousin and childhood fianc‚ Rukmini (Keerthi Reddy). Once he goes to the USA to give music performance and there he meets Meghana (Anjala Zaveri). She abhors Sasi, who showers praises on every girl he comes across. She too is deeply in love with Sujith, her husband-to-be. Meghana and Sasi happen to travel to India together, up to Singapore by flight and from there by ship. During the many encounters they tease and ridicule each other to their heart's content. Slowly they become friends and even begin to love each other. Since the two are already engaged and are in love with their fiances, they try to suppress their feelings. Unable to overcome her feelings Meghana expresses her love to Sasi, who is in a similar position. To put their love on test, they come to a decision to stay apart for three months and meet in one place if they still continue to love each other.
Once they reach their homes, marriage preparations are on for the two. Meghana gets her nischithardham (formal engagement) postponed by purposely burning her hand on that day. During the three months their love shows no signs of abating and they set out to meet on the assigned day in the chosen place. While Meghana reaches the place, Sasi, who meets with an accident, fails to keep the appointment. Presuming that his love for her has been a temporary infatuation, Meghana tries to hasten up her marriage in order to forget Sasi. After regaining consciousness after the accident, Sasi tries to contact Meghana over phone and comes to know that she is getting married on the same day. He comes to the conclusion that she is not in love with him and to keep up his earlier promise he goes to sing at her marriage. At the same time his friend (Ali) tells Meghana the reason for Sasi's failure to come to the meeting place. When Sasi is about to leave after entertaining the invitees with his song, Meghana rushes to him from the invitees with his song, and rushes to him from the marriage pandal. While the elders denounce her Sujith supports her action saying that love is greater than tradition and gets them both married. The movie ends with Rukmini too understanding their love.
Like many of Nagarjuna's recent releases, the movie fails to impress people from all walks of life. Not many will accept the idea of falling in love again after being in love. The director who has taken such a controversial point has failed to convince the audience to his viewpoint. Though it is not Jayanth's fault, the subject is such that it drags on unnecessarily. Nagarjuna and Anjala Zaveri have performed extremely well towards the end. Music score by Mani Sharma is appealing while photography, particularly the scenes abroad and those on the ship, by Ajay Vincent are impressive.
