Aishwarya Rai's tryst with Cannes continues. This time her film Provoked, based on the real-life story of a battered wife, Kiranjit Ahluwalia, will be premiered at the Cannes film festival in May.

Producer Dr. J. Murli Manohar evidently has big plans for the film. “Provoked is being distributed by an independent American company, Lee Daniels Entertainment, the same company that distributed the Halle Berry starrer, Monster's Ball.”

He says, “In fact there are some striking similarities between the two housewives played by Aishwarya Rai and Halle Berry. Both films are about a woman's struggle for dignity. My director Jagmohan Mundra and I are hoping that Provoked gets a response similar to Monster's Ball in the West.”

Along with Provoked, Dr. Manohar's other film, Infinite Justice will also premiere at Cannes. This film telles the story of the assassination of American journalist Daniel Pearl. “So it's two bio-pics for us at Cannes this year,” he says.

Next, the producer plans to launch Lady Godiva, a period bio-drama with Charlie Chaplin's grand-daughter Kiera Chaplin in the title role. The film will be directed by Baz Taylor.

Back home Dr. Manohar will now produce a lavish Kannada film. “I've made several Tamil films, but would like to make a Kannada film now,” he says.

This time, he plans to remake one of his Tamil hits, Jodi, into Kannada. “I have the music rights for A.R Rahman's score in Priyadarshan's Doli Sajaa Ke Rakhna. I've already taken Rahman's permission to use it in the Kannada film.”
