Deshmukh assured the house that he would make a statement on the issue raised by opposition members who demanded that Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) be applied against Salman for his alleged threats and links with the underworld.
BJP legislature party Gopinath Munde, who raised the issue in the Assembly through an adjournment motion, said Mumbai police had in its possession tapes of purported mobile phone conversation between Salman and Aishwarya, his ex-girlfriend, in which the actor had threatened her if she did not attend events linked to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his aide Chhota Shakeel.
In the tape from 2001, transcripts of which were published in a Mumbai newspaper on Thursday, Salman allegedly threatened Aishwarya saying ‘the underworld keeps tabs on you whenever you are abroad’.
Salman is also purportedly quoted as telling Aishwarya that he knew about the Mumbai blasts in advance and that he had links with Dawood.
BJP MLA Eknath Khadse said "such open threats in broad daylight reflect badly on the law and order situation."
The Chief Minister said "police has taken a note of the issue. A statement will be made on the issue after an inquiry," he said.
Ashforever Notice: Please be aware that the authenticity of the tape is currently under investigation. We will bring you further developments on this matter. As newer articles become available, they will be posted below.
