Rajnikanth: Fading charm?

Is our ‘original’ superstar and the demi-God of Tamil cinema fading away from public memory? He has been displaced from the latest 2004 power list of “the most powerful people who wield influence at national level” published by India Today magazine! Last year in 2003, Rajnikanth was the 34th in the list among the 50 most powerful people in the country. This year, Chiranjeevi features way down at 49th as “he is the highest paid film star down south”. Added to that Chiranjeevi’s films “rarely flop” and he is in public eye as there is “constant speculation about his entry into politics”.
The message emanating out of India Today’s power list is that after the Baba debacle and his shying away from politics, Rajni is no longer hot and is slowly fading out of public memory. Will our thalaivar give a fitting reply by either announcing a new film or playing a more important role in Tamilnadu politics?
The other personalities from showbiz in the power list 2004 are Amitabh Bachchan in the 6th position, Shah Rukh Khan (27th), A.R.Rahman (29th), Aishwarya Rai (42nd) and Javed Aktar in the 47th position.
