The recent government decision to allow private domestic airlines to fly across the boarder will help Air Sahara generate about 10 per cent of its total revenue from international operations in the next 6-12 months.

“We expect to generate about Rs 100 crore in the short terms from our international operations,” Air Sahara chief executive officer Uttam Kumaar Bose said.

The airline, which will launch its first flight between Chennai and Colombo on Monday, has decided to launch second flight between Bangalore and Colombo from April 8, 2004.

“By next month we will also commence flights to Bangladesh and Nepal,” Mr Bose said adding that former Miss India Aishwarya Rai is the brand ambassador for its international services.

“We are proud to start international service with Colombo as our first international destination. This will offer wider choices to all those travelling to Colombo. We are planning to add new aircraft to our fleet for international services and expansion of domestic sectors. In total, we will have 24 aircraft by the end of this year,” he said.

Currently Air Sahara has 12 Boeing and seven Bombardier aircraft.
