IMAX Brings Taj Mahal to the Big Screen
22 April, 2001
It's true... Bollywood will be bringing, both to Indian and American audiences, the Taj Mahal classical love story. The role of Shah Jahan has not been decide (although rumour has it, he's a popular game show host, Lekin Kaun?), but the role of Mumtaz has been casted by Aishwarya Rai.
Bala, who is the face and name behind this $10 million project, will begin shooting sometime during July, in Agra. The music for this film will be composed by the great AR Rahman. Wait until you hear what's more to come... For the first time in India, not only will there be two versions shot for this film, the shooting itself will be in IMAX format.
The first version will be in English and an hour in length. There will be absolutely no room left for error, for shooting in IMAX format (70mm) is a very slow and technically difficult process. The second version is shot with 35mm format in Hindi and will be two hours length.
Love stories have always been a part of the Bollywood film industry, but the legacy of the Shah Jahan, Mumtaz and the Taj Mahal can only be re-lived on the silver screen.
