Two movies about the Taj Mahal!
24 August, 2001
Bollywood is about to witness TWO productions being made at the same time about the same subject: The story behind Taj Mahal! It was only months ago that director Ganapathy Bharat announced his plans for an Imax movie based on the Taj Mahal story, starring Aishwarya Rai as Mumtaz Mahal. Now film producer Akbar Khan is planning to make a movie around the same subject, which he states will be the most expensive movie ever made in India.
Akbar Khan, known for his mega historical TV serials on warriors and kings, is in the midst of creating grand sets in an ancient fort in Rajasthan for the 500-million-rupee Taj Mahal-An Eternal Love Story. Nearly 100 workers have been constructing massive sets in the fort for over four months. This time around it will be Kabir Bedi who plays Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, while a newcomer will play Mumtaz.
