You'll be directing a film after a long time.
I took a long break from direction mainly because I couldn't find a script or an idea to excite me. There's an intellectual bankruptcy in Hindi cinema. Scriptwriters only come to me with copies of Hollywood films. But now I'm finally directing a film this year.
Will this film star Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh?
These are my two favourite actors. Amitji and I have known each other for thirty-five years. We're friends. If he wants me to make a film, I'll do it happily. And he will never say no to me either.
Did he come over to your place to ask for a role in Mohabbatein?
What are friends for if not to do such things? It's his generosity that made him do it.
Have you got a new hi-tech studio?
Yes, when I started as a filmmaker, none of the hi-tech facilities were available to me. Now we are able to provide every possible facility to any filmmaker who wants to make a film.
What are your plans as a producer?
We're readying three films for release. On May 26 we're releasing Fanaah with Aamir Khan and Kajol, who will be paired opposite each other for the first time.
Then we have Kabul Express with John Abraham and Arshad Warsi. Then we're releasing Dhoom 2 during Diwali. We have a lot of actors and directors with differing sensibilities working with us.
