Now, Deborah Moore, his daughter, has a bit role in Jagmohan Mundhra’s Provoked, the true story of a Punjabi immigrant (Aishwarya Rai) who murders her abusive husband.
“It’s karma,” Sir Roger tells HT Style in an exclusive chat. The man who brought a wry sense of humour to his Bond roles is back in India, this time as Unicef goodwill ambassador. He itinerary includes Jaipur and Mumbai, where he is scheduled to meet such Bollywood names as Anupam Kher and Mahesh Bhatt to persuade them to get involved in various Unicef programmes. He also hopes to catch up with his Octopussy co-star, Kabir Bedi.
Moore confesses he’s never seen a full Bollywood film, except “bits and pieces” on DVD. “Of course, Bollywood has made a tremendous impact and we have come a long way since the days when nobody knew what an Indian film was all about,” he says. “Things have changed from the days when you couldn’t show anything beyond a woman’s neckline.”
Daniel Craig, the new James Bond, is a “good actor”, says Moore. And who is his fave Bond? “Sean Connery,” comes the reply without any hesitation. And which Bond film does he like best? “The Spy Who Loved Me.”
Any Bond moments he regrets? “In The Man With A Golden Gun, I had to knock a little boy off a boat. I didn’t like doing it,” he recalls.
No wonder he roots for UNICEF.
