Ash charms the UK Box Office

The Queen of Bollywood is reigning supreme at the British box office, with Aishwarya Rai's Bride And Prejudice taking the number one spot in UK cinemas. The all-singing, all-dancing romance served up an ace by knocking Wimbledon into third place on the chart. Even Milla Jovovich couldn't outshine Aishwarya, with the Hollywood beauty's newly-released Resident Evil sequel landing in fourth position. And Denzel Washington was left lagging behind, after the thriller Man On Fire made its debut at number six.
Bride And Prejudice, which was filmed in America, India and the UK, is a modern re-working of the Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice. The flick follows the romantic adventures of the Bakshi family as the ambitious matriarch of the clan tries to find suitable husbands for her four lovely daughters.
Needless to say, there are plenty of potential suitors for the alluring maidens. Martin Henderson plays an American Mr Darcy, while Holby City's Nitin Ganatra is a nerdy, but wealthy, accountant. "It's a very British Asian movie that incorporates India, England and America," said director Gurinder Chadra. "It's very true to Jane Austen and the spirit of the book."
